Quaker Valley’s Matt Danna won a section title Feb. 14 at Keystone Oaks.
Quaker Valley seniors Matt Danna and Bruce Anderchak captured their third section championships Feb. 14 at the WPIAL Class 2A Northern wrestling tournament held at Keystone Oaks.
“Matt and Bruce both won their third titles,” QV coach Austin Heinl said. “They are now tied with the most section titles won by the other three-time winners at Quaker Valley, Conner Redinger and Jack Kazalas.”
In the finals, Danna won via a technical fall in 4:09 in the 160-pound weight class against Laurel’s Braxton Carr. The final score was 19-4.
Danna jumped to 38-9 overall this season with 18 falls and 11 technical falls. He also improved to 127-30 for his career.
“I entered the tournament with first place as my goal,” Danna said. “I wanted to have a strong performance for my first postseason tournament of the season and last section tournament of my career. The last two weeks, I focused on preparing physically and mentally for this tournament and the upcoming tournaments.
“My goal for the remainder of the season is to create strong performances in matches while having fun. I think this can carry me far into the postseason.”
Anderchak pinned North Catholic’s Michael Pierro at the 55-second mark in the 121-pound final. The QV senior improved to 30-1 overall with 14 falls and 11 technical falls.
He also boosted his career record to 149-29.
“My goal was to wrestle as hard as possible,” Anderchak said. “I knew if I did that I would come out a section champion.
“And I was very impressed with how our team performed. We had some very strong performances from our older and more experienced guys as expected, but also the younger guys that found a way to qualify were very impressive.”
Anderchak, who started out 25-0 this season, began this week two victories away from tying the QV wrestling all-time win record of 151 held by Kazalas.
“My goals for my final postseason are to have fun, enjoy the moments and wrestle hard,” Anderchak said. “I know if I am enjoying the process and being grateful for the opportunity to compete that my best wrestling will come out and that will yield strong results.”
Joining his teammates as a section titlist was 189-pound junior Trey Dunlap, who secured a 19-3 technical fall in 4:36 in the championship round against Beaver County Christian’s Carmine Battaglia.
“Trey won his first section title” Heinl said. “Trey keeps getting better every time he competes. I’m excited to see how he progresses through the postseason.”
Dunlap won 19-3 and boosted his season record to 33-11 with 20 falls and three technicals falls. He also jumped to 64-45 for his career.
“I’m happy with our performances at the section tournament,” Heinl said. “Bruce Anderchak, Matt Danna and Trey Dunlap all competed extremely hard, which led to them dominating their brackets even against tough competition.
“We also had a lot of young underclassmen perform well and qualify for the first time for the WPIAL tournament — Damien McClay, Jake Neff and Angel Perez. These young guys are gaining valuable experience, and hopefully it will propel them forward to keep getting better. ”
QV’s Harper Sipes landed in the runner-up spot at 145 pounds at the sectional event as he was pinned in 1:52 by Central Valley’s Ethan Bosco in the finals. Sipes, a junior, ended the tournament with a 24-9 record this season and 50-34 for his career.
The Quakers qualified seven wrestlers for the section tournament: Danna, Anderchak, Dunlap, Sipes, Perez, Neff and McClay.
“I believe Quaker Valley’s performance was overall successful,” Danna said. “Seeing the young wrestlers on the team, whether it’s their first year or they just started wrestling, move on to the postseason was great and important for their careers.
“Having four finalists and three first-place medalists also carries a lot of momentum for the WPIAL tournament.”
Perez, a freshman, pinned North Catholic’s Brendan Valentine at the 26-second mark to finish fifth at 285 pounds.
Neff, also a freshman, lost a 5-4 decision to Ellwood City’s Nathan Chandler to end up in sixth place at 172.
And McClay, a sophomore, was pinned by Beaver County Christian’s Connor McKinney at 2:46 to place sixth at 133.
The WPIAL Class 2A individual championships were set for Feb. 20-21 at Chartiers Valley.

Seven wrestlers at Quaker Valley qualified for the WPIAL tournament.
The qualifiers from the Class 2A Northern Section tournament were seniors Bruce Anderchak (121) and Matt Danna (160), juniors Trey Dunlap (189) and Harper Sipes (145), freshmen Angel Perez (285) and Jake Neff (172) and sophomore Damien McClay (133).
“I think that the team performed very well,” said Dunlap, who won the section title. “We had four finalists and three champions and a number of underclassmen who outperformed expectations and qualified for the WPIAL tournament.
“I definitely went into sections with the goal of taking first place. I trusted that my training and mindset would help me achieve my goal. I go into every tournament with the mindset that I’m there to win it. I knew the competition would be tough, but I’m blessed to have great coaches that prepare me for these matches.”
The near- and long-range futures look promising for the QV grappler.
“My goals going forward are to compete for the WPIAL title and qualify for states,” Dunlap said. “Looking back, it’s incredible to see how much progress I’ve made in a year. It just speaks to my coaching and the work that I put in in the offseason.”

Century club member Bruce Anderchak leads Quaker Valley wrestling into season
RAY FISHER TRIBLIVESUN, DEC 7, 2025 • 11:01 AM
Quaker Valley wrestler Bruce Anderchak joined an exclusive club Jan. 15 against Carlynton when he earned the 100th win of his career.
It took the 114-pound Anderchak just 15 seconds to pin his opponent and go 29-2 with 15 falls for the season and 100-23 with 40 falls for his career.
“Getting 100 wins in just my junior season is an accomplishment I’ve been looking forward to all year,” Anderchak, now a senior, said afterwards. “I’m thankful that I’ve been healthy enough all through my high school career to wrestle every match and tournament to allow me to get to 100 this early.
“It is a cool accomplishment, but I’m looking forward to bigger and better things the rest of my wrestling career.”
QV coach Austin Heinl was impressed.
“Bruce has wrestled for more than two-thirds of his life,” Heinl said. “This might be the fastest anyone in QV history has achieved this milestone.”
Anderchak joined eight other century club grapplers at QV: Jack Kazalas (2024), 151-28; Patrick Cutchember (2022), 141-31; John Rocco Kazalas (2019), 134-33; Connor Redinger (2021), 112-20; Logan Richey (2023), 112-50; Jack Diemert (2025), 110-58; Justin Richey (2022), 107-41; and Marcus Richey (2025), 100-44.
If you’re counting, that’s three members the 2024-25 squad who achieved their 100th career win last season.
“It’s great company because everyone in the program with 100-plus wins has had great success in their career,” Anderchak said. “It’s fun being able to be added to the banner in the (wrestling) room.”
Anderchak ended last year 48-7 overall to extend his career record to 119-28, placing him fourth all-time at QV. He finished 40-8 as a sophomore and 31-13 as a freshman.
Anderchak has been a regional medalist, section champion and WPIAL runner-up twice in his career. He’s also finished second in the section and fourth in the district.
The talented QV wrestler racked up 22 falls and eight technical falls a year ago to boost his career totals to 47 and 15. He started out 8-1 and 11-2 last season and twice won seven of eight matches later in the year.
Two other top returning starters for the Quakers are senior Matt Danna and sophomore Brennan Breisinger.
Competing at 139 or 145 pounds, Danna posted a 51-10 record last winter after attaining a 38-11 mark in 2023-24. He is in his third year of competition at QV and needs 11 wins to reach 100.
Danna has captured two section titles, placed third and sixth in the WPIAL and was a regional medalist in 2024-25. He has 40 falls and 22 technical falls among his 89 career wins.
He kicked off last year at 9-0 and won 20 consecutive matches (nine pins, nine technical falls, one major decision, one forfeit) after his first loss to go to 29-1. Danna also achieved 12 wins in 13 bouts later in the season.
Breisinger burst onto the QV scene last year. He wrestled in the 215-pound weight class and wrapped up the season 37-15 overall with 17 falls and 10 technical falls.
Breisinger was victorious in his first five varsity matches (4 falls, 1 technical fall) and also rattled off winning streaks of five, six and eight matches.
Sophomore Tommy Minnock won 23 bouts at 160 last year while junior Harper Sipes (133) and senior Eoin Parnell (121) were victorious 22 times.

The Quaker Valley wrestling team won’t compete in a home match until next year.
After participating in five road tests in December, the Quakers will wrestle in their home opener Jan. 7 in a section match against Avonworth.
QV opened the season Dec. 3 at Moon then competed in the Chartiers-Houston Invitational held Dec. 5-6 at Chartiers-Houston.
The Quakers were led at the invitational by two seniors, Bruce Anderchak at 127 pounds, and Matt Danna at 160, along with 189-pound junior Trey Dunlap.
Anderchak won by a technical fall over Butler’s Nick Savannah in the championship round to improve to 5-0 this season and 124-28 for his career. Dunlap finished in third place to go to 5-2 while Danna placed fourth to go to 7-2.
Danna, who racked up a 51-10 record in 2024-25, boosted his career mark to 96-23
The Moon Duals took place a week after that, followed by a trip to Mount Aloysius on the weekend of Dec. 19-20 for the Panther Holiday Classic.
Nine days later, the QV grapplers will participate in the nationally acclaimed Powerade Classic set for Dec. 29-30 at Canon-McMillan.
The Quakers kick off the new year Jan. 3 at the Ed Driscoll MAC Tournament at Laurel. There are only two home matches on QV’s schedule this season; the second is set for Jan. 21 against a section foe, Keystone Oaks.
Following the match against the Golden Eagles, the Quakers will practice for three weeks in preparation for the District 7-2A Section North tournament set for Feb. 14.
