Quakers Lose: -
On Wednesday, the Quaker Valley Girls Track & Field Team traveled to Peters Township High School to compete against 3 other schools in the AA WPIAL Team Championship (Greensburg Central Catholic, Riverside, and Shenango).
The girls were led by their team effort in winning all 3 relays. The first relay win took place during the first event of the day, the 4x800m relay, which consisted of Senior Anna Cohen, Junior Kathryn Karwoski, Sophomore Kate Hines, and Sophomore Ellie Cain. Nearing the midpoint of the meet, the 4x100m relay consisting of Freshman Vanessa Pickett, Freshman Kwilai Karto, Sophomore Spencer Elliott, and Junior Nora Johns faced the number one ranked Greensburg Central Catholic 4x100m relay. The Quaker Valley team was able to pull out the victory in a photo finish when anchor Nora Johns crossed the line 0.18 seconds ahead of Greensburg. In the final event on the track, the girls had another great performance when the 4x400m relay made up of Junior Kathryn Karwoski, Sophomore Kate Hines, Sophomore Ellie Cain, and Junior Nora Johns crossed the line first and officially sealed the victory for the team. In the end, the Quakers defeated Shenango (QV 89 - S 61), Riverside (QV 85 - R 65), and Greensburg Central Catholic (QV 83 - GCC 67)! The Girls 2022 Quaker Valley Track & Field team is now WPIAL Champions!
The relay performances alone would not have been enough for the girls to be crowned champions. All 24 girls competing contributed towards the team's victory. Here are some of the individual performances that led to the victory. In addition to her 2 relay victories, Sophomore Ellie Cain won the 400m and 800m. Freshman Cecilia Montagnese won the 1600m and 3200m. Junior Nora Johns placed 1st in the 300 hurdles and 2nd in the 100 hurdles. Freshman Kwilai Karto finished 2nd in the 100m, 3rd in the 400m, and 3rd in the 200m. Sophomore Kate Hines also had a strong contribution in the 1600m, finishing 4th overall, while Freshman Vanessa Pickett placed 6th in the 100m and 5th in the 200m.
In addition to this, we had a lot of success in the field where Senior Ainsley Commens tied for 1st in Pole Vault. Junior Kathryn Karwoski placed 2nd overall in High Jump. Freshman Jay Olawaiye and Senior Ellie Bates both had personal bests in Triple Jump taking 3rd and 4th place, respectively. Senior Amelia Herrmann finished 4th in Discus, while Freshman Sarah Minard finished 4th in Pole Vault. Freshman Lea Mauer took 5th in Javelin. We also had three girls place 6th overall in their respective events. Junior Paige Nichols in Shot Put, Sophomore Spencer Elliott in Long Jump, and Sophomore Kathryn Main in High Jump. In the end, it was a great team effort that resulted in earning the rights to be named 2022 WPIAL Champions. Congratulations ladies!

On Wednesday, the Girls Track & Field Team traveled to South Park High School to compete in a Girls AA WPIAL Playoff Meet against 4 other schools (South Park, Waynesburg, Southmoreland, and Brownsville).
All 25 girls that traveled with the team competed and contributed to the final outcome. In the end, the girls defeated all 4 schools including the hosting team, South Park High School. The competition against South Park and Southmoreland came down to the last event and therefore ended in a very close final scores of QV 79 - SP 71 and QV 79 - Southmoreland 71. Due to this victory, the girls will travel to Peters Township High School next week to compete in the AA WPIAL Team Championships. Congratulations ladies!
The girls team came out victorious due to many notable performances. One of the biggest highlights came in the last event when Senior Ainsley Commens broke her own school record in Pole Vault with a vault of 9 feet 8 inches. Ainsley ended up finishing first overall in the event. Other first overall finishers were Nora Johns (300 hurdles), Ellie Cain (800m), Kwilai Karto (200m) and the 4x800m relay team consisting of Anna Cohen, Zoey Murawski, Emily Bablak, and Kate Hines. We had several other personal bests, season bests, and great overall performances by athletes. Great job and good luck next week ladies!

On Wednesday, the Quaker Valley Track & Field team traveled to Shenango High School for the MAC Invitational. There were 21 total schools in attendance.
The boys' team was led by Kadin Johnson and Matthew Otto. Kadin took 1st place in the 400m dash and 2nd place in the 200m dash while Matthew Otto took 2nd place in the 3200m run and 5th place in the 1600m run. The boys had 2 other top 6 finishes by Noah Leathers placing 3rd in the 110m hurdles and Alex MacDonald placing 4th in Discus. In total, the boys brought home 6 total medals. Great job boys!
The girls' team also had a lot of success with all 3 relays placing in the top 6. The girls 4x100m relay consisting of Vanessa Pickett, Kwilai Karto, Spencer Elliott, and Nora Johns placed 4th, the 4x400m relay consisting of Kwilai Karto, Kat Karwoski, Ellie Cain, and Nora Johns placed 2nd overall, and the 4x800m relay consisting of Cecilia Montagnese, Emily Bablak, Kate Hines, Ellie Cain also placed 2nd . In addition to their relay medals, Nora Johns and Cecilia Montagnese medaled in 2 individual events as well. Nora took 1st place in the 300m hurdles and 4th place in the 100m hurdles while Cecilia took 2nd place in the 3200m run and 6th place in the 1600m run. The girls had 3 other top 6 finishes from Ainsley Commens placing 2nd in Pole Vault, Kwilai Karto placing 3rd in the 100m hurdles, and Ellie Cain placing 5th in the 400m dash. In the end, the girls brought home 19 total medals and finished 2nd overall as a team in the meet. Congratulations ladies!

This weekend the Quaker Valley Track & Field team traveled to Butler Area High School for the 57th Annual Butler Invitational. In total, 62 schools were in attendance.
On Saturday, the boys traveled to Butler and were led by Senior Kadin Johnson who placed in 3 events (100m-5th, 200m-3rd, 400m-3rd). Early in the meet, the boys started off strong placing 7th overall in the 4x800m relay consisting of Matthew Otto, Matthew Cohen, Luke Hotchkiss, and Clark LaLomia. The boys continued their success with Noah Leathers placing 7th overall in the 110m hurdles, Clark LaLomia placing 8th overall in the 800m, and Matthew Otto finishing 9th overall in the 3200m. In the field, Eric Weicht finished 13th and Thomas Debelak finished 16th overall in Triple Jump. In the end, the boys finished 8th overall as a team and brought home 9 medals! Congratulations boys!

This weekend the Quaker Valley Track & Field team traveled to Butler Area High School for the 57th Annual Butler Invitational. In total, 62 schools were in attendance.
The girls competed on Friday and started off strong finishing 5th overall in the 4x800m relay consisting of Kate Hines, Kathryn Karwoski, Cecilia Montagnese, and Ellie Cain. From there, the success continued with Ainsley Commens placing 7th and Sarah Minard finishing 9th in Pole Vault. Cecilia Montagnese finished 14th in the 1600m and 9th in the 3200m with personal bests on her 15th birthday! Paige Nichols finished 14th and 17th while Amelia Herrmann finished 17th and 22nd in Discus and Shot Put. Ellie Bates, Spencer Elliott, and Amelia Pribik all competed and earned personal bests in their events. The meet closed with our highest place of the meet when Ellie Cain placed 2nd overall in the 800m before Kwilia Karto placed 7th overall in the 200m. In the end, the girls finished 15th overall as a team and brought home 7 medals! Great job ladies!

On Wednesday, the Quaker Valley Track & Field team traveled to New Castle for a Tri-Meet against New Castle and Ambridge.
The boys were led by Senior Kadin Johnson and Sophomore Matthew Otto after taking first place overall in 2 events. Kadin in the 200m and 400m and Matthew in the 1600m and 3200m. We had other first overall finishes by Noah Leathers (300h), Alex MacDonald (Discus), Thomas Debelak (Triple Jump) and Clark LaLomia (800m). Other point scorers were Jacob Boone, John Rafla, Gavin Eshenbaugh, Eric Weicht, Abe Djedid, Timmy Burda, Jakub Pickett, Luke Hotchkiss, Nico Cardinale and Isaac Penvose. The boys performance led to a victory over Ambridge by a score of QV 121-A 27, but a narrow loss to New Castle with a score NC 85 - QV 65. This brings the boys final season record to 4-2.
The girls dominated the track events, taking 1st place overall in all 11 track events including the 3 relays. The winning relay members were: 4x100m - Ellie Cain, Kwilai Karto, Spencer Elliott, Nora Johns; 4x400m - Lili Fagan, Lizzie Szuba, Kat Karwoski, Kate Hines; 4x800m - Cecilia Montagnese, Kate Hines, Zoey Murawski, Louisa Webster. The first overall finishers were Cecilia Montagnese (800m, 1600m, 3200m), Nora Johns (100h, 300h), Kwilai Karto (100m, 400m), Ellie Cain (200m). Other individual point scorers were Ellie Bates, Amelia Herrmann, Lili Fagan, Kathryn Karwoski, Paige Nichols, Kate Hines, Kathryn Main, Lizzie Szuba, Stevin Wallace, Sarah Minard, Jay Olawaiye, Vanessa Pickett, and Amelia Pribik. In the end, the girls defeated New Castle by a score of QV 95.5 - NC 53.5 and Ambridge by a score of QV 122 - A 25. This brings the girls record to 5-1 on the season.

On Tuesday, the Quaker Valley Boys' and Girls' Track & Field teams traveled to Beaver Area High School.
The boys' team was led by Senior Kadin Johnson after placing first overall in three individual events (100m, 200m, and 400m). Other first place finishers were Timmy Burda (100H), Alex MacDonald (Discuss), Gavin Eshenbaugh (Shot Put), Eric Weicht (Triple Jump), Clay Powell (Pole Vault), Matthew Otto (3200m), and Clark LaLomia (800m). The boys also clenched the 4x800m and 4x400m relays which included Matthew Otto, Matthew Cohen, Luke Hotchkiss, Clark LaLomia, and Timmy Burda. Other individual point scorers were Jacob Boone, Jakub Pickett, and Nico Cardinale. Congratulations to the boys' team for winning the meet with a final score of QV 89 - B 61.
The girls' team was led by Senior Amelia Herman, Junior Nora Johns, Sophomore Ellie Cain, and Freshman Kwilai Karto. Each of these athletes won two individual events (Amelia - Shot Put and Discuss, Nora - 100m and 300H, Ellie - 400m and 800m, Kwilai - 200m and High Jump). In addition to this, we swept all 3 relays (4x800m - Cecilia Montagnese, Emily Bablak, Kate Hines, and Ellie Cain; 4x100m - Ainsley Commens, Kwilai Karto, Spenser Elliott, and Nora Johns; 4x400m - Kate Hines, Emily Bablak, Nora Johns, and Ellie Cain). We also had an individual first place finish from Jay Olawaiya (Triple Jump) and Cecilia Montagnese (3200m). Other individual point scorers were Ellie Bates , Sarah Minard, Kathryn Main, and Sienna Albano. In the end, the girls won a close meet against Beaver by a final score of QV 80 - B 70.
This meet result brings both the boys and girls team records to 3 - 1 for the season.

On Tuesday, the Quaker Valley Boys and Girls Track & Field team traveled to Blackhawk High School to compete in a Tri-meet against Blackhawk and Avonworth/Northgate.
The boys' team was led by Senior Kadin Johnson and Sophomore Matthew Otto. Each of them placed first overall in 2 individual events (Kadin- 100m and 200m, Matthew - 1600m and 3200m). Other first place finishers were Noah Leathers (100H), Gavin Eshenbaugh (Shot Put), and Alex MacDonald (Discuss). Other individual point scorers were Jakub Pickett, Timmy Burda, Luke Hotchkiss, Clayton Powell, Eric Weicht, Matthew Cohen, Nico Cardinale, Clark LaLomia, and Joaquin Puente-Texidor. In the end, the boys defeated Avonworth/Northgate with a final score of QV 114 - A/N 39, but suffered a loss to Blackhawk team by a score of BH 89 - QV 61. This brings the boys record to 2 - 1 on the season.
The girls also had a lot of success in the meet and were led by Sophomore Ellie Cain, and Freshman Cecilia Montagnese. Both girls placed first overall in 2 individual events (Ellie - 400m and 800m, Cecilia - 1600m and 3200m). Ellie and Cecilia also placed first in the 4x800m and the 4x400m relays where they were joined by Kathryn Karwoski, Kate Hines, Emily Bablak, and Kwilia Karto. The girls had several other first overall finishes by Ainsley Commens (Pole Vault), Kathryn Karwoski (High Jump), Paige Nichols (Discus), Amelia Pribik (100H) and Kwilia Karto (300H). Other individual point scorers were Ellie Bates, Maddie Amato, Amelia Herrmann, Nora Johns, Hannah Lubert, Spencer Elliott, Kate Hines, and Kathryn Main. When the dust settled, the girls defeated Avonworth-Northgate QV 105 - A/N 30, placing first in all but 1 event. Although they performed well overall, the girls also fell short to Blackhawk with a final score on BH 83 - QV 67. After this performance, the girls now have a record of 2 - 1 on the season.

The boys' team was led by Sophomore Matthew Otto and Freshman Clark Lalomia. Each of them placed first in 2 individual events (Matthew - 1600m and 3200m; Clark - 400m and 800m) and were members of the winning 4x800m relay where they were joined by Luke Hotchkiss and Jake Milletary. Other first place finishers were Kadin Johnson (100m), Noah Leathers (100H), Gavin Eshenbaugh (Javelin), Alex MacDonald (Discuss), Eric Weicht (Triple Jump), Clayton Powell (Pole Vault), and Nico Cardinale (High Jump). Other individual point scorers were Timmy Burda, John Rafla, Winston Clifford, and Joaquin Puente-Texidor. Congratulations to the boys' team for winning the first meet of the season with a final score of QV 87 - CV 63.
